At B-UHS, Shaver participated in show choir, Young Life and junior volunteers, and she was a member of the National Honor Society.

She is the daughter of Rosa and Rod Shaver. Rosa Shaver is a 1988 graduate of Wesleyan. Her grandmother, Mary Carpino, and cousin, Kayla Long, also attended Wesleyan.

In order to be eligible for the Progressive Bank Scholarship, the candidates' high school grade point average, ACT and SAT scores, high school class rank, and letters of recommendation are reviewed to determine the scholarship winner. Previous winners include Jessica Harvey and Diane Roberts.
