Don L. Myers, 71, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday evening in Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 9, 1941, at Montrose, a son of the late Roger L. and Nettie Compton Myers.
On Feb. 4, 1961, at Montrose, he was married to Shirley Jean Wymer Myers, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Don L. Myers Jr. and wife, Heather, of Elizabeth; two daughters, Donna Workman of Elkins and Tammi Weaver and husband, Mark, of Circleville, Ohio; and one brother, Roger Myers of Rock Hill, S.C. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Weston and Brant Workman, Maxx and Alex Myers, Derica Silvia, Lacey Dulek, Courtney Price and Kelsey Myers; five stepgrandchildren, Riley, Rin, Rachelle, Reanna and Reid Weaver; and five great-grandchildren.
Don was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1957 and had served 21 years in the military with the United States Army having retired in 1978. During his military career, he had served during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, Overseas Service Bars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm and the Good Conduct Medal Clasp. After retiring from the military, Don was the manager for the Western Steer in Elkins for nine years and then retired as manager of the Elkins Randolph County Airport. He was a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion of Elkins, the Refuge Church at Gilman and Gideon International.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 3 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Kevin Gainer officiating. Interment will follow in American Legion's Little Arlington Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded at the gravesite by members of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard.
