BUCKHANNON - Buckhannon-Upshur's volleyball team did not have a solid match from a consistency standpoint Thursday night, but the Lady Bucs made the plays they had to make in forging a four-set victory over Lincoln.
"Overall it was a rough night, we definitely were not playing to our potential," Buckhannon-Upshur coach Sheena Westfall said. "Perhaps it is because we had a few tough practices leading up to tonight, but we were just a little off."
Buckhannon-Upshur pulled out a tight 25-22 victory in the evening's first set, and followed that effort up with a 25-20 win. But they could not close the deal in the third as the Lady Cougars dominated and cruises to 25-13 win.
Lincoln started set four strong as well, jumping to an early 4-1 lead. B-U rebounded by scoring the next five points and had extended that lead to 22-15 late in the match. Lincoln mounted one last rally, cutting the deficit to 22-19, but the Lady Bucs regained possession and closed the match.
Leah Blend and McKenzie Leigh each led the way at the net with 13 kills apiece. Setter Lindsey Wagoner recorded 20 assists, while Sarah Ling registered an impressive line of 14 digs, 10 service points, and six aces. Courtney
Buckhannon-Upshur improves to 2-0 with the win and will travel to Summersville Saturday to play in the Nicholas County Tournament that features 15 teams sorted in different pools.
The Lady Bucs have four game scheduled within their pool.
