Richard Arthur Kiel, chartered life underwriter, died Sept. 5, 2012.
Rick was born June 6, 1939, in Montgomery, to parents, Eva Mae Swisher and Arthur Gustov Kiel.
He attended Milford High School in Milford, Del., the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory in Fort Belvoir, Va., in 1959, received his bachelor's degree from Wilmington College in Wilmington, Del., in 1972 and his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Delaware in 1974.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his aunt, Genevieve Swisher of Buckhannon.
Rick is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Anne "Penny" Fissel Kiel of Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Margo Kiel-Levy, and grandsons, Steven, Nicholas and Alexander Levy, all of Brentwood, Tenn.; daughter, Kathleen Michelle Kiel (Steve) Ray, and grandsons, Ethan and Aidan Ray, all of Sandy Springs, Ga.; brother, Ronald Kiel of St. Louis, Mo.; and sister, Vicky Eastman of Anchorage, Alaska.
Although he was retired at the time of his passing, Rick's professional career was spent in the insurance industry in Wilmington, Del., Cincinnati, Ohio, Charlotte, N.C., and Nashville, Tenn. He also held a real estate brokers designation under the name of Kiel Realty.
Graveside services will be conducted at Friendship Cemetery in Berlin Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284.
