Lady Tigers fall at Fairmont; B-U sweeps LC

FAIRMONT - The Elkins High School girls soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Fairmont Senior Tuesday in Big 10 Conference action at East-West Stadium.

The Lady Polar Bears outshot Elkins 12-1 in the contest.

Charlie George had eight saves in goal for the Lady Tigers (4-4), who trailed 4-0 at halftime.

Elkins will host East Fairmont Thursday for another conference matchup at 6 p.m.

B-U 8, Lewis County 0

WESTON - Emily Godwin and Taylor Starkey both recorded hat tricks to power Buckhannon-Upshur past Lewis County 8-0 Tuesday in Big 10 Conference action.

Hannah Stankus and Brooklyn Waddell added single goals for the Lady Bucs (8-1), who held a 4-0 lead at intermission.

Waddell finished with four assists, while Godwin and Stankus had one each for B-U.

The Lady Bucs outshot Lewis County 25-2 in the contest and held a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Jodi Chapman had 17 keeper saves in goal for Lewis County.

Kelsey Hinzman and Hannah Williams both had one stop each for the Lady Bucs.

"This win gives us a good leg up on our sectional seeding," Buckhannon-Upshur coach Tom Hasbrouck said. "We came out a little sluggish and played better as the game went on."

Buckhannon-Upshur will host Fairmont Senior Thursday for a Big 10 Conference tilt at 6 p.m.

Boys

Elkins 0, Fairmont 0

FAIRMONT - The Elkins High School boys soccer team battled Fairmont Senior to a scoreless deadlock Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference action at East-West Stadium.

The Polar Bears (6-1-2) held a 7-2 edge in shots on goal for the contest and had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Tyler Gray had seven saves in goal for Elkins.

"We have talked in practice about having the mind-set that we can play with anyone that we face," Elkins coach Andy Montgomery said. "We're starting to believe that and it showed tonight. There was no score but also no lack of excitement.

"Ryan Henson and Tommy Cain were instrumental in the game tonight."

Elkins will play host to East Fairmont on Thursday for another conference contest starting at 8 p.m.

B-U 4, Lewis County 3

WESTON - Marty Elliot had two goals to lead Buckhannon-Upshur past Lewis County 4-3 Tuesday in Big 10 Conference action.

Trey Short and Dylan Hall added goals for the Bucs (6-3), while Marcus Lofton and Jordan Thomas tallied assists.

Hunter White finished with two goals and Jimmy Stutler had an assists for Lewis County.

Buckhannon-Upshur outshot Lewis County 14-13 in the contest and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Chris Orwig had 10 saves in net for the Bucs.

Chris Santalucia had 10 stops for Lewis County.

"This was a very tight, well played game," Buckhannon-Upshur coach Mike Donato said. "Lewis County came out with a great defensive strategy and really got us out of our comfort zone."

Buckhannon-Upshur will entertain Fairmont Senior Thursday at 8 p.m.

Lewis County will travel to Robert C. Byrd the same night.
