EHS spikers earn first victory; B-U wins

FAIRMONT - The Elkins High School volleyball team defeated Fairmont Senior for their first victory of the season Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference action.

The Lady Tigers (1-3) won the match in four games. Elkins captured the first game 25-19, before the Lady Polar Bears evened things up with a 25-18 win in the second contest.

Elkins then closed out the match with 25-22 and 25-21 victories.

Delaney Johnson had six blocks, while Ashley Simmons and Amiah Price had three kills each for Elkins.

Taylor Miller added two kills for the Lady Tigers.

Elkins lost the junior varsity contest 22-25 and 15-25.

"We finally played together as a team," Elkins coach Penny Crawford said. "Hopefully we can continue to play this way in our next game."

Elkins will host East Fairmont Thursday at 7 p.m.

B-U 3, Lewis County 0

WESTON?- Buckhannon-Upshur's defeated Lewis County in three games Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference action.

The Lady Bucs won the match 25-19, 25-16 and 25-15.

Sydney Bush had seven aces for the winners, while Leah Blend and MacKenzie Leigh had six kills each. Sarah Linger registered seven digs and Lindsey Wagoner tallied 17 assists.

Buckhannon-Upshur (8-1-1) will entertain Fairmont Senior on Thursday.
