The annual Habitat for Humanity roast pork and chicken dinner will be served Sept. 21 to raise funds for Habitat's two home projects under way in Upshur County.
Dinner hours will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 52 S. Florida St., Buckhannon. In addition to the traditional roasts, the menu will include salads, vegetables, rolls, homemade desserts and beverages. Takeout will be available. Tickets for the dinner are $10, with a donation for accompanying children under 12 years of age.
The newest Habitat for Humanity homes are going up in the Vicksburg community. Each project involves dozens of local volunteers and the future homeowners. Generous contributions from community organizations, churches and individuals that provide the construction materials go to work again and again as homeowners' mortgage payments cycle back to fund the next family's home.
As part of a worldwide movement that has provided safe and affordable housing for more than 300,000 families, Buckhannon River Habitat for Humanity has been at work in the county since 1992. The local affiliate is headquartered in the Upshur Parish House on College Avenue. More information is available by contacting Lee Dixon, current board president, at 304-472-4678.
