Mill Creek has a new councilwoman, after council members voted unanimously to appoint Shelly George to fill the unexpired term of Gary Coffman.

George was sworn into office by recorder Carolyn Meade Thursday night. Coffman's resignation from council was accepted by council members at a special meeting Sept. 6.

George said she wants to serve on council so she knows what is going on.

"I see people at the store and I am able to get public input," George said. "I am going to get my schedule switched around so I am able to attend all of the meetings."

Councilman Eddie "Bill" Currence told George he is glad she is here.

"I only ask that you vote for what is best for the people and for this town," Currence said.

Attorney Jeff Zurbuch also spoke with council members Thursday regarding at-will employment.

"If you enact policy which spells out times for verbal warnings, written warnings and such, you remove the employee from an 'at-will' status," Zurbuch said. "It is better to have the flexibility to decide case by case for each employee."

In other business, council voted to purchase four metal exterior doors from Lowe's, voted to pay the outstanding bills and voted to set trick-or-treat for the town of Mill Creek for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

The next Mill Creek Town Council meeting is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 11.
