Megan Nicole Casteel of Charles Town has been appointed as a princess in the 76th Mountain State Forest Festival by Sen. David Sypolt.
Casteel is the daughter of Robert and Denise Casteel of Tunnelton. She has one brother, Justin Casteel, and is the granddaughter of Adrian and Kathy Wolfe of Tunnelton and Dorothy Casteel of Newburg and the late Archie Casteel.
Casteel is a 2008 graduate of Preston High School, and she graduated from Shepherd University in May. She achieved the honor roll and principal's honor roll at her high school four consecutive years. Also, while in high school, she was recognized in the 2007 publication of the National 4-H Calendar for a photography award. She earned 4-H awards in Environmental Stewardship in 2004 and 2007, Girl of the Year in 2007 and the Public Speaking and Photography and Video Awards in 2006 and 2008.
Within her four years of college, she held the PROMISE Scholarship her freshmen and sophomore years and was on the dean's list her junior and senior years. She was very active in her department, participating in the Shepherd University photographers exhibitions. She had three images chosen to be in the Shepherd University Honor Show in 2010. Her works were published in the 2010 "Sans Merci" campus publication and in the 2011 and 2012 publications of The Anthology of Appalachian Writers.
Casteel will join other princesses along with the rest of the royal court of the Mountain State Forest Festival descending coronation hill Oct. 5 for the coronation of Maid Silvia LXXVI. More information is available by visiting www.forestfestival.com.
