The Philippi Public Library is looking for runners, walkers, rollers and sponsors for its team in this year's Run For It race.
The annual race is sponsored by the Tucker Community Foundation, a source for local charitable giving and social investment. The race takes place this year at 11 a.m. Sept. 29 through the streets of Davis.
"Last year's Philippi Public Library team included 25 participants and raised $3,672 for the library," said team captain Caroline C. Jett. "This year the library is looking build a larger team and to exceed last year's donations."
Those people who want to run, walk, or roll in the 2k/5k walk or the competitive 5k run, or those who want to sponsor the racers, are invited to stop by the library and register for the Run For It race as a member of the Philippi Public Library team.
Each team entered in the race is eligible for a variety of awards, including the first to finish the 2k walk, the fastest 5k runner, the best effort to raise support and awareness and the top fundraising team from each county. Because each award is a monetary one, each team can win a large sum of money for its organization or cause.
All money raised by the Philippi Public Library team will go toward matching the library's state grant-in-aid funds and toward operating expenses for the library.
Director Judy Buckner Larry said operating expenses impact everyday activities at the library. Money generated from the Run For It race helps fund children's programming, including preschool Story Hour, the fall Teen Reading Week, introductory computer classes, acquisition of new materials and other activities at the library.
For further information about registering for the library's race team, anyone interested can contact call 304-457-3495 or stop by the library for a registration form.
