With a nip of fall in the air and temperatures moderating, West Virginia's state parks offer a wide variety of events this weekend.
Weekend events at include a Ballroom Dancing Weekend celebration at Stonewall Resort State Park. The celebration is devoted to dancing and learning how to "Dance like the Stars." All ability levels are welcome. Classes include salsa dance, nightclub two step lessons and West Coast swing. On Saturday, Cass Scenic Railroad State Park will offer the Bluegrass Bar-B-Que at Whittaker Station, featuring an evening train ride to the station along with bluegrass music and a self-serve barbeque buffet dinner. The train departs at 5:15 p.m. An optional locomotive shop tour or Cass Showcase presentation is available, an optional self-guided tour of Camp Whittaker and a recreated logging camp are part of this special evening package. The train ride, music and dinner cost is $36 for adults, $26 for children 5-12 and $16 for children younger than 5. Reservations are required; call Cass Scenic Railroad at 304-456-4300.
On Saturday and Sunday, Stonewall Resort State Park will host West Virginia's Celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Days.
More than 100 vendors and exhibits include archery, shotgun and rifle shooting, blackpowder shooting, youth sports, sporting dogs, care and cooking of fish and game, wild food tasting, trophy buck display, trophy fish display and non-game exhibits. National Hunting and Fishing Days is a must-see event for those interested in hunting, fishing and outdoor sports.
