Modern Homettes CEOS Club?meets

The Modern Homettes held their monthly meeting on Aug. 23 at the home of Mary Stump with Patty Brake as co-hostess. The meeting was called to order by President Lucy Mullins. The pledge was recited by all.

Meditation entitled "Today we will slow down" was given by Sheila Thomason. The minutes were approved and placed on file. The treasurer's report was given by Mullins. Cindy Phillips made a motion to accept the treasurer's report. Mae Collins seconded the motion, which carried. The treasurer's report was placed on file for audit at a later date.

In old business, Mullins went over several dates. June 4 was Learn n' Return for the months of August, October, and November. Eleanor Harris and Debbie Quick attended.

On June 12, at a Nominating Committee meeting, Lucy Mullins was nominated for county president and Cathy Tallman was nominated for county vice president. There was a County Executive Board meeting and a County Budget Committee meeting with Mullins and Bennet attending. June 21-24 was the West Virginia Folk Festival. There was not a County Belle this year.

On July 12, a county council and advisory board meeting was held with Mullins and Bennet attending. The county project for 2013 will be the Parish House.

Kim Thomason, from St. Joseph's Hospice, asked if any CEOS member would like to volunteer for hospice.

July 20-22 was the Upshur County Fair; members entered items to be judged. Nancy Hinchman won second place with her flower arrangement. Cindy Phillips won second place in the flower arrangement for the flower show. Jean Hollen won first place in soft sculpture and third place in crochet. Lucy Mullins won first place in scrap booking, first place in ceramics and third place in needlework.

Shirley Spreaker won first place in crochet and first place in wreaths. Donna Bennet won second place in needlework and honorable mention in crochet.

A breast cancer awareness meeting was held on Aug. 13 with Lucy Mullins, Stanley Mullins, Jean Hollen, Debbie Quick and Donna Bennett attending. On Aug. 15, Mullins turned in a total of 4,017 volunteer hours. On Aug. 24, there was a fall fund raiser meeting and a Christmas Raffle meeting. Upshur County CEOS week was Sept. 2-8.

In new business, members will decorate a window at NTELOS for the mini fair. The mini fair will be in front of the courthouse. Sept. 15 is the children's festival at the Stockart Youth Center. There will be a breast cancer awareness meeting at noon Sept. 17 at the extension office.

The annual fall conference will be Sept 25-27 at Jackson's Mill. Members discussed paying $97 for the registration fee for the fall conference. Ethel Andrews made a motion to pay the $97. Shirley Spreaker seconded the motion, which carried.

Looking ahead to October, the breast cancer awareness day at Jawbone Park will be Oct. 1. Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. and the program starts at noon. The fall fund raiser will be Oct. 13.

The next meeting will be Oct. 4 at the home of Lucy Mullins with Dea Harris as co-hostess.
