Calvin Phillips

Calvin C. Phillips, 87, of the Tennerton community, Buckhannon, went home to be with his Savior and Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, in West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg.

He was born Dec. 15, 1924, at French Creek.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Irene Long Phillips; his wife, Garnett Rose Pritt Phillips; five brothers, John D. Phillips, Randall "Rack" Phillips, Morris J. Phillips, Bernard Phillips and Leonard "Buddy" Phillips; and two sisters, Anna Belle Sams and Patty Joann Moats.

Surviving are his two sons, Calvin Brent Phillips and wife, Susie, of Morgantown and Terry Gene Phillips and wife, Shari, of Buckhannon; six grandchildren, Dr. Brandi Phillips, Brooke Quinlan and husband, Aaron, Cody Phillips and wife, Courtney, Brian Phillips and wife, Tasha, Shannon Nichols and husband, Keith, and Katelyn Phillips; and four grandchildren, Eli and Isaac Phillips, Noah Nichols and Harper Phillips.

Calvin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 36 of French Creek, American Legion Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 of Buckhannon and a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. He retired after 38 years with Craig Motors in Buckhannon.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel, where services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Ed Lowther officiating. Burial will follow in Upshur County Memorial Park. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, American Legion Post 7 and DAV Chapters 5 and 36 will provide military funeral honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church of your choice or to the Upshur County Regional Library, Route 6 Box 480, Buckhannon, WV 26201.
