Wesleyan spikers fall, tennis wins

West Virginia Wesleyan appeared to have Wednesday night's road volleyball match at the University of Charleston well in hand, leading 2-0. But the Lady Golden Eagles rallied to take the last three games and pull out a dramatic comeback victory.

Wesleyan won game one 25-22, then followed that by pulling out a 27-25 victory in game two.

In a position to close it out, the Lady Bobcats faltered in game three and lost 25-15.

In the games next match, Charleston fought off elimination and evened things up at 2-2 with a 27-25 win. With the match on the line, the Lady Golden Eagles pulled the victory by edging the Lady Bobcats 15-12 in game five.

Korin Wengryn and Erin Bond tallied 12 kills each for Wesleyan.

Colleen Black added 10 kills, while Sarah Crowder and Camblin Leonard collected eight each.

Casey Pattyn set with 38 assists and had 14 digs, while Renata Comparini had 14 digs.

Wesleyan falls to 5-10 with the loss and 1-1 in the West Virginia Conference.

Women's Tennis

BUCKHANNON - The West Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team captured an 8-1 victory over Alderson-Broaddus on Wednesday.

In doubles, Wesleyan's tandem of Angela Pittinger and Thais Bezerra defeated Stephanie Gertsakis and Mariah Bradley, 8-4.

In singles competition, Gertsakis defeated Wesleyan's Juliane Bezerra 6-4 and 7-6.

The Lady Bobcats received singles victories from Ailene Conner and Somi Jeong.

Wesleyan improves 2-6 with the win.

while the Lady Battlers fall to 0-5.
