A new event will highlight the opening weekend of the 76th Mountain State Forest Festival. Sponsored by Yuengling and Elkins Distributing, the "Yuengs & Wings" Chicken Wing Cookoff will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 29 on Davis Avenue from Second Street to Fourth Street in Elkins.
Patrons can enjoy a variety of wings prepared by vendors vying for the win. Each $1 ticket will allow patrons to purchase two chicken wings. Local celebrities will serve as official judges, and those who purchase at least $10 worth of wings will be eligible to cast a ballot for the People's Choice Award.
"This event will feature area participants who want to share their wing-cooking talents with the public," said Kate Reed, event chairperson.
Each team will need to be at the event site at 2 p.m. where a refrigerated truck will provide the specified amount of wings. Other items which will be provided include a tent, tables, garbage bags, paper towels, disposable rubber gloves, metal bucket (for grease removal) and washing station. In order to participate, all team members must provide a valid food handler's card on the day of the event.
