Scenic race will feature fun for all

Take a scenic Sunday run during the Mountain State Forest Festival's annual 10K Run/5K walk, which is scheduled at noon Sept. 30. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m.

The race will start and finish at Huntington Bank, and it will feature "scenic rolling hills," said festival Assistant Director Ben Shaffer. Runners can sign up in six age groups - 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59 and 60 and older. The first-place overall male and female winners will receive an $100 cash prize; the second-place overall male and female winners will earn a $75 cash prize; and the third-place overall male and female finishers will collect $50 apiece.

The first-place male and female above age 40 will win $100 in the master's division. Plaques will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place male and female runners in each age group. The first-place male and female walker will each earn a plaque.

This year’s annual 10K Run/5K walk is set for noon Sept. 30, and it will start and finish at Huntington Bank.

Race sponsors include Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center; Dr. Frank L. Mams and Dr. Ashley L. Griffiths, General Dentistry; and Broughton's Sports and Trophy World.

Davis Memorial Hospital is sponsoring a Kids' One-Mile Challenge, which will take place at the end of the race. Registration is free to kids 10 and will be held at the Elkins YMCA.
