Students raise money for charity

October 3, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Elkins High School's student council is participating in one of the most successful community service projects that empowers youth to make a difference. Senior Colleen Webley was introduced to this project at a national Student Council Conference in Oklahoma during the summer.

The Yuda Bands the council is selling will help provide for student education in third-world countries. Each of the unique Yuda Bands, which are handmade in Guatemala, will be sold for $7, and all the money raised will go toward the two students the student council members have chosen to sponsor.

Members will continue to sell the bands through this Friday, and the project is going to be a charitable donation completed in Maid Silvia LXXVI's name during the Mountain State Forest Festival.

Also, the student council members would like to thank Elkins Dairy Queen for donating coupons for a free ice cream cone with the purchase of a Yuda Band.
