Upward Bound seeks participants

October 3, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

The Davis & Elkins College Upward Bound program serves students from Tygarts Valley, Harman, Elkins, Philip Barbour, Tucker, Pendleton and Pocahontas high schools.

UB staff will visit each school and distribute applications to 10th-grade students. Each school has a deadline when applications are due.

Upward Bound is a federally funded TRiO program designed to prepare high school students for post-secondary education beyond high school.

The program provides services to students whose parents have not completed a four-year degree or to those who meet income guidelines.

The program's goal is to ensure that these students graduate high school, pursue and complete post-secondary education.

For information or an application, anyone interested can call 800-624-3157, ext., 1389.

The number of students into UB programs is limited by grant appropriations from the U.S. Department of Education, Title IV TRiO Programs. Students not selected will be placed on a waiting list. If an opening becomes available, the program will select from that list.
