WHEELING?- University, Roane County and Charleston Catholic captured team titles Wednesday at the state high school golf tournament at Oglebay Park.
The Hawks finished the two-day event with a 453, ahead of Class AAA runner-up Wheeling Park (459) and Cabell Midland (469), which placed third.
Elkins, competing in its first state tournament, finished in eighth place with a 520.
Alex Baird paced the Tigers with a two-day total of 170, which was good enough for 23rd place. Teammates Kollin Hopwood (174, 30th), Braden Hammond (176, 32nd) and Kelsi Trippett (190, 36th) followed.
"We were hoping for a better overall performance, but it didn't happen," Elkins coach Dave Baird said. "But I think our kids got a really good experience out this tourney, especially our seniors (Baird and Trippett)."
Wheeling Park's Cole Hand was the medalist for the tournament after shooting a 146.
Buckhannon-Upshur's Dalton Crislip competed in the individual competition and finished in 26th place with a 171.
In Class AA, Roane County finished with tournament with a 489. Poca (492) and Fairmont Senior (506) followed.
Roane County's Austin Spears was the individual champion in Class AA after finished the tournament with 156.
Charleston Catholic won its Class A team title with a 481. Madonna (502) was second and Buffalo (503), which was led by medalist Corey Hoshor (154), was third.
Moorefield finished eighth overall in Class A with a 590.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Quincy Fraley, who finished in sixth place with a 165.
Moorefield's Colleen Connolly followed Fraley in 31st place with a 209.
East Hardy's Korey Foltz finished 28th in the individual competition with a 194.
