WVU student becomes royalty

Commissioner of Corrections Jim Rubenstein has chosen Chelsea Lynae Yeager as a princess in the 76th Mountain State Forest Festival.

Yeager is the daughter of Jerry and Angie Yeager of Beverly. She is the granddaughter of Sterling and Zelma Yeager of Elkins and Nellie Shiflett and the late Carroll "Puch" Shifflett of Mill Creek.

Yeager graduated from Elkins High School with the class of 2011 and presently attends West Virginia University, where she is a sophomore majoring in pre-pharmacy.

She is a member of the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church. During high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Key Club, and she graduated in the top 10 percent of her class. She was a four-year member of the EHS marching and concert bands, a four-year EHS cheerleader and was a recipient of the PROMISE Scholarship.

Yeager also attended Rhododendron Girls State and was a 2004 Mountain State Forest Festival Royal Girl Scout.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading, listening to music, photography and spending time with family and friends.

Yeager and other members of the Forest Festival's royal court will take part in the coronation ceremony today at Davis & Elkins College.
