October teas await Adaland guests

October 8, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Guests from Philippi and surrounding areas are invited to experience a social event that may have been enjoyed at the time the Augustus Modisett family built and lived in the house that is now known as Adaland Mansion at Philippi. That event is the English tea.

Because the English tea was a popular event within Victorian society, the English tea - both high and royal - may well have been served in the Modisett home because the house was built in 1870, the Victorian time period. This connection to the time of the original house is one of the reasons Adaland Mansion began offering English teas to guests last year.

The next scheduled English tea at Adaland Mansion will be Oct. 21. High tea will be served at 2 p.m. and will offer guests four courses of finger foods, both sweets and savories. Royal tea will be served at 5 p.m. and will offer guests extended sweets and savories and will end with a complimentary glass of champagne. Both teas conclude with Adaland signature chocolate.
