Davis & Elkins student teachers serve area schools

October 9, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Davis & Elkins College education students have started the student teaching component of their teacher certification in area schools.

Student teaching is the culminating experience in D&E's teacher education program. Teacher candidates work full-time in public school classrooms under the mentoring of a qualified cooperating teacher. By the end of two seven-week teaching placements, student teachers have gained valuable experience in planning, teaching and managing a classroom.

Lee Epperson of Elkins is teaching science for grades five to nine at Elkins Middle School. Holly Smith of Valley Bend is teaching first and third grades at Homestead Elementary. Lindsay Holliday of Cumberland, Md., is teaching physical education for kindergarten to sixth grade and ninth to 12th grade at Midland Elementary and Elkins High School. Ashley Kodluk of Logan Township, N.J., is teaching first and fourth grades at Third Ward Elementary.
