TENNERTON - Buckhannon-Upshur bounced back from Monday's loss at Philip Barbour, gaining a four-set victory over Elkins Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference action.

The win moves the Lady Bucs to 9-1 in league play this season.

"I thought we came out well tonight, but we just seemed to lose some energy in the middle of the match," Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Sheena Westfall said. "We made a few lineup changes just to mix some things up."

Buckhannon-Upshur captured the first match 25-17 and made the necessary plays in the second contest to win 25-15.

Down two sets, the Lady Tigers rebounded with a solid 25-19 victory in the third set.

Last year, Elkins was also down two games to B-U, but rallied to win five games in an epic marathon battle. On this night, however, Buckhannon-Upshur was able to stem the tide and close the match.

In the deciding fourth set, B-U received a pair of critical service runs from Lindsey Wagoner and Sarah Ling.

Ling closed the set with ten points, while Wagoner slammed the door with the final seven. In the end, B-U won the fourth set going away, 25-10.

"We have been asking the girls to hit our serves where it will make it difficult for the defense to make a play on," Westfall said. "Tonight we did a tremendous job with the serves."

Sydney Bush, Leah Blend and McKenzie Leigh led the Lady Bucs at the net, recording 14, 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Blend led with six blocks, while Leigh added five.

Wagoner set with 38 assists, while Courtney Reed and Ling each hit double figures in the dig category, reaching for 15 and 10. Cora McDaniels, Brianna Polk and Wagoner all added eight digs apiece. Reed also led with five service aces.

In the balanced B-U attack, Sarah Gillespie chipped in with six kills and Casey Frederick had three digs. Ten different Lady Bucs made an impact on the stat sheet.

The Lady Bucs also defeated Elkins (2-9) in the junior varsity contest, 21-25 and 13-25.

The Lady Tigers fall to 4-7 overall with the loss and will return to action Thursday at home against Robert C. Byrd.

Buckhannon-Upshur (18-4-2) will travel to Bridgeport the same night.

Thursday night for a match with major playoff implications.
