The Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 3663 of Buckhannon is again hosting the Voice of Democracy Program.
To be eligible, participants must be in grades nine to 12, and enrolled in a public, private, parochial high school or home-study program. No foreign exchange students are eligible to compete in this program. Entries must be submitted by Nov. 1 to 12 S. Kanawha St., Buckhannon WV 26201.
Each department's first-place winner will receive an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., from March 5 to 9, where they will tour the city, meet our nation's leaders and be honored by the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary.
Participants are also eligible to earn scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $16,000. The top winner will receive a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to their choice of American university, college, vocational or technical school.
To enter, record an original three- to five-minute essay on a standard cassette tape or compact disc. The preferred format for CDs is the audio CD format. When burning the CD, make sure that "Create Audio CD" option is selected so the program can properly convert the sound file. Entrants must use 2012-2013 theme "Is Our Constitution Still Relevant?"
