Inter-Mountain offering new mobile app

October 11, 2012
By Anthony Gaynor - Staff Writer (agaynor@theintermountain.com) , The Inter-Mountain

Since 1892, The Inter-Mountain has provided quality news, sports, features and more to readers throughout our coverage area. Now, readers will be able to get that information in a whole new mobile way from The Inter-Mountain.

In conjunction with National Newspaper Week, The Inter-Mountain has launched an iPhone App, which will provide readers with access to local news when and where they want. This year's Newspaper Week theme is "Newspapers - The Cornerstone of Your Community."

"In order to fulfill that role, we must continually evolve with technology. Developing a mobile access platform further ensures that The Inter-Mountain truly remains a cornerstone of the community for this and future generations," said Heather Goodwin Henline, Inter-Mountain publisher and general manager.

Users of The Inter-Mountain's mobile app will receive breaking-news alerts and the day's top news and sports stories, in addition to features on local residents who are doing extraordinary things. The app also will allow users to vote in daily online polls and search archives for articles.

This latest medium will join the print edition and the paper's website, theintermountain.com, as ways readers can access local information. The new app will be updated daily as each day's print edition begins being delivered and the website is refreshed with content.

The popularity of the Apple iPhone and iPad pushed the development of the application for those products first. The combined traffic from those devices to the paper's website is far more than from all other mobile devices combined. All mobile phone users still will be able to access the paper's website using a web browser by visiting mobile.theintermountain.com.

Visiting the main website with any device running the Apple OS system will trigger a screen urging readers to download the free application. Apple OS device users also can search for "The Inter-Mountain" in the app store to download the new software. Apple OS users also may visit theintermountaincom/iphone to be redirected to the correct site.

The application is compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5; the third, fourth and fifth generation iPod touch; and the iPad. The app requires iOS 4.3 or newer versions. The app is optimized for the iPhone 5.
