AARP driver safety program slated

October 12, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

An AARP driver safety program is scheduled Monday from 8 a.m. to noon Monday at the Barbour County Senior Center.

This is an innovative classroom driver re-training program designed to help older persons improve their skills.

This one day class is for people who have already had the initial two day, eight-hour class during the past few years.

This course, developed by AARP, covers the effects of aging and medications on driving, basic driving rules, license renewal, local traffic hazards, adverse road conditions, energy saving and accident prevention measures.

Persons 50 years of age or older are eligible to participate in the program, but no insurance discount is given for persons 50 years of age.

The course fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. If the participant brings his/her AARP membership card to the class, he/she will receive a $2 discount. Please bring the correct amount of cash or a check, made payable for the correct amount on the day of the class.

Jiggs Hite will be the instructor. Anyone wishing to register for the class can call the Barbour County Senior Center at 304-457-4545.
