Lorraine Hedrick

Lorraine Isabel Sponaugle Hedrick, 86, a resident of Hendricks, departed this life Friday afternoon, Oct. 12, 2012, at Cortland Acres at Thomas.

She was born Sunday, Sept. 19, 1926, at Hendricks, a daughter of the late John Alvin and Dessie Hedrick Sponaugle.

On Dec. 22, 1944, at Monterey, Va., she was married to Carl Keith "Sonny" Hedrick Sr., who preceded her in death July 28, 2008. They had celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Surviving are one son, Carl Keith "Jody" Hedrick Jr. and wife, Rita, of Elkins; one daughter, Sandra Kay Bava and husband, Pete, of Hendricks; three brothers, John Freeman Sponaugle of Holly Meadows, Berlin Lee" Bud" Sponaugle and wife, Louetta, of Parsons, and Paul William Sponaugle and wife, Lela, of Holly Meadows; two sisters, Louise Rutherford of Rupert, and Abbie Carolyn Wamsley and husband, Charles, of Hendricks; seven grandchildren, Colby Hedrick, Angenette Pase, Nyckie Mitchell, Mark and Martin Moore, Kara Payne and Andrew "Jake" Bava; and 11 great grandchildren; Logan, Landon and Lucas Mitchell, Madison, Audrey and Russell Moore, Mac, Hayden and Isabel Payne, Sutton Pase and Henley Grace Bava.

Preceding her in death are two sisters, Ruth Stalnaker and Evelyn Parsons.

She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1944. She was a former employee of the Hoover Company of Ohio, during the wartime, and a former employee of C.W. Harvey Co. in Hendricks. She, along with her husband "Sonny", was owner and operator of Carl K. Hedrick Store in Hendricks for over 63. She attended the Sycamore Grove Church at Bull Run and the United Methodist Church at Hendricks. Her greatest passion was her family and her love of serving Jesus. Lorraine was known for her beautiful singing voice.

She was a delight to everyone who heard her sing.

It was her joy to sing only gospel songs. Truly, she did make a joyful noise unto the Lord and she did enter into his gates with Thanksgiving and into his court with praise.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home parlor on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. Rev. Pat Cassidy and Rev. Loren Metzner will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman.
