Seniors prepare for Olympics

October 17, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Seniors at Nella's Inc. are getting geared up for an upcoming event.

On Thursday, Nella's residents will test their skills at basketball toss, bowling, clothes pinning, candle blowing and many other events through the Geri Olympics on the Move.

Students from the Randolph County Technical Center HOSA will be on hand at the event to lend their assistance. Dr. Ted Muilenburg, Geri Olympics on the Move representative from West Virginia State University, also plans to attend the activities.

"The residents are very excited and are talking about who is going to do what events and who will win," said Bill Oldaker, Nella's Inc. activities director. "One resident is determined to win the candle-blowing contest this year."

Oldaker said the Geri Olympics take place each year in Charleston, but traveling is too much for most of the local seniors.

"Because of the great distance, we host a Geri Olympics on the Move here," Oldaker said. "This gives the residents to opportunity to be part of the greater circle."
