Osborn Devane Moran, 83, of Berea, Madison County, Ky., died Friday, March 23, 2012, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Ky.
He was born Dec. 18, 1928, in Mill Creek, the son of the late Joseph "Joe" O. Moran and Naomi Hansford Moran, was a U.S. Navy veteran of nine years, a retired engineer for Bechtel Power Corp. and worked for some aerospace companies in the early 1960s that were involved with the U.S. space program.
He was last a resident of Berea, Ky., for nine years, lived in Harlem, Ga., for about five years prior and lived in Montgomery and Frederick counties in Maryland for more than 40 years of his adult life.
Survivors include his second wife of 37 years Roberta Lea Moran; two children, Michael (Kathy) Moran and Aletha (Jeff) Clark; three stepchildren, Diana Hays, R.D. (Jane) Hays and Dwight (Pam) Hays; two grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Geraldine (Faulkenberry) Moran, and two nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Darl Moran; his first wife of 24 years, Eleanore Sue (Montgomery) Moran; a son, Stephen D. Moran; and a daughter, Teresa Lynn Moran.
A small local graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 20, at noon, officiated by his grandson, David R. Clark of New York City. Osborn Devane Moran will be laid to rest with his parents, aunts, uncle, grandfather, Robert E. Lee Moran, and son, Stephen, in Greenwood Cemetery in Valley Bend. Ladies of the Valley Bend Presbyterian Church in Dailey will be honoring Osborn Devane Moran and the Joseph "Joe" O. Moran family for their service to the church for 60-plus years at that time. Local friends and family are welcome to attend; any one wishing to bring flowers for the grave on the day of the service will be appreciated.
