B-U trips Elkins in four games

Buckhannon-Upshur defeated Elkins in four sets Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference volleyball action at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

The Lady Bucs (22-4-2) won the first two games of the match, 25-21 and 25-16.

After Elkins captured a 25-17 win in the third set, Buckhannon-Upshur closed out the match with a 25-7 victory in game four.

"B-U has a very good team," Elkins coach Penny Crawford said. "We played well tonight, but we made more errors than B-U did and that's what cost us."

Seniors Amiah Price, Delaney Johnson, Natalie Green, Kaitlyn Miller, Contrara Huffman, Ashley Simmons and Sam Phares played in their final home match for the Lady Tigers.

"I'm going to miss our seniors," Crawford said. "I've had all of them the last three years and they were fun to watch."

Miller led Elkins (6-10) with 13 attacks, 10 kills, six set assists and three solo blocks.

Johnson followed with 20 attacks, eight kills and two solo blocks, while Green had 12 attacks and six kills for the Lady Tigers. Simmons chipped in with five attacks, five set assists and two kills.

Price had 15 attacks and three kills for Elkins, while Phares tallied one set assist.

Buckhannon-Upshur won the junior varsity game, 25-11 and 25-16.

The Lady Buccaneers will travel to Liberty Harrison for their season finale on Thursday.

Elkins will end regular-season play the same night at East Fairmont.

Sectional tourney action is slated to begin on Monday.

Tygarts Valley 3, Moorefield 0

MILL CREEK - Tygarts Valley defeated Moorefield in three games Tuesday night in Potomac Valley Conference volleyball action.

The Lady Bulldogs (13-6) won the match, 25-19, 25-11 and 25-8.

Charity Lower and Kelsey Arbogast finished with 16 set assists each for Tygarts Valley.

Erin Murphy collected nine aces for the Lady Bulldogs, while Shanda Howell added eight kills.

Tygarts Valley will entertain Petersburg for a non-conference matchup Thursday at 6 p.m.
