The West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission has voided all wins by the Elkins High School football team this season because a player has been deemed ineligible, officials said.
Randolph County Superintendent of Schools Dr. James Phares said the decision by the WVSSAC was brought to his attention Wednesday after a neighboring county filed a complaint. The complaint was reviewed by the WVSSAC on Tuesday.
"The WVSSAC will be voiding all wins by the team this year," Phares said. "There will be implications in AA and AAA rankings."
Phares said the players on the team will be notified at today's practice by the coaches and EHS Principal David Fincham.
"I know the community got behind this football team and it is going to be devastating to a lot of people," Phares said. "We are going to investigate the matter fully."
