Spook-tacular events set for Sunday

October 27, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Robin's Nest Travel Center will host the second annual Spook-tacular Costume Contest and Carnival on Sunday.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Angel Tree Program for Our Neighbor and The Salvation Army. There is no admission fee for the public, but everyone is encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for the donation box.

Registration for the costume contest will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Along with cutest, scariest, and most original categories, there will also be a best couple and best group/family contest. Officials will be awarding more than 30 trophies in the contest. Each participant will receive a medal and goody bag. All ages are encouraged to enter. There is no entry fee for the costume contest.

Officials also will be hosting a Best Pie in Lewis County Contest. All ages are encouraged to bake their best pie and bring it to be judged. Pies will be scored on presentation, taste and creativity. Officials will award trophies for the top three pies and the winner will receive a 12-inch bronze chef trophy. Everyone who enters the contest will receive a participation ribbon. The pies should be presented between 2 and 3 p.m. The cost for entering the contest is a toy donation.

There also will be carnival games and prizes along with a bounce house, obstacle course and sand art. There will be raffles for baskets and items donated from local businesses and a 50/50 raffle. The Jane Lew Fire Department will have a smoke trailer to educate children about fire safety. Lots of food and cotton candy will be available. There will also be a vendor fair set up with Christmas gift ideas. Some of the items featured will be homemade jewelry, Pampered Chef, and Thirty-One gifts, along with many others.

A donation box will be set up for unwrapped toy donations and people can also "adopt" a child from the angel tree. Gifts can then be dropped off at the Robin's Nest Travel Center to be picked up and delivered to the children.
