Bad weather puts a stop to area games

Games from around the area scheduled for Monday were postponed due to bad weather.

One game took place in the West Virginia Conference girls soccer tournament, with Charleston defeating Shepherd 2-1.

The other first round game was to feature Davis & Elkins and Concord, but was rescheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m.

Davis & Elkins’ Bre Eskew looks to dribble past a Pitt-Johnstown defender earlier this season. The Lady Senators were scheduled to play Monday against Concord in opening round action of the tournament. The game is rescheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. at Alderson-Broaddus Field.

Charleston moves on to play Alderson-Broaddus at 10 a.m. in Philippi Saturday in semi-final action.

West Virginia Wesleyan plays the Concord vs. Davis & Elkins winner at noon Saturday.

The championship game will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Alderson-Broaddus.

All games in the women's tournament will be played at Alderson-Broaddus on the turf field due to the weather.

The men's tournament will get underway today, depending on weather..

The first game will pit No. 6 Seton Hill at No. 3 West Virginia Wesleyan. No. 5 Shepherd at No. 4 Wheeling Jesuit will make up the other half of today's matchups.

The winner of the Seton Hill-Wesleyan game will play at No. 2 Davis & Elkins on Thursday.

The other semifinal contest on Thursday will be between the winner of Shepherd-Wheeling Jesuit and No. 1 Charleston.

The men's championship game will be Saturday at the higher seed's home field.

Charleston won the regular season title with a 12-3-1 overall record.

The Golden Eagles finished 9-0 in the conference this season.

In high?school volleyball sectionals three games were canceled due to bad weather.

High school volleyball sectionals have been put on hold as well due to the storm.

In the Class AAA, Region II, Section 2 tournament, games that were postponed for Monday were Elkins at Buckhannon-Upshur and Lewis County at Hampshire.

The rescheduled date will be Thursday with Elkins vs. Buckhannon-Upshur at 5 p.m. Lewis plays Hampshire at 6:30 p.m. and the championship at 8 p.m. All games will be at Buckhannon-Upshur.

In Class A, Region II, Section 2, the Tygarts Valley and South Harrison volleyball sectional has been postponed and no makeup date has been scheduled.

The Class AA, Region II, Section 2 tournament is still scheduled to begin today, but could be postponed due to weather. No. 4 Bridgeport will play No. 5 Lincoln. The winner will play No. 1 Philip Barbour at 7 p.m.
