Buckhannon-Upshur's historic volleyball season came to an end Saturday night in regional action as the Lady Bucs fell one game short of a state tournament appearance.
After pulling off the sectional championship on Friday night, the team of first year head coach Sheena Westfall finally ran out of gas, losing to a strong Hedgesville squad in straight sets.
Hedgesville dominated that first set, and did not look back, winning by counts of 25-6, 25-9,25-13.
The perennial state power is making another trip to Charleston.
For Buckhannon-Upshur, it was still a season for the ages.
It rolled to an impressive 22-5-2 regular season. In the finale, Leah Blend led at the net with six kills, followed by MacKenzie Leigh with four kills and two blocks. Sarah Gillespie added three kills. Lindsey Wagoner had 12 assists and five digs, while Sarah Ling led the defense with 16 digs, with Courtney Reed adding five.
