Air Force Maj. Wilga C. Lothes has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious service for the armed forces of the United States from Aug. 17, 2011 to Aug. 27, 2012.
Lothes is the daughter of John and Wilga Lothes of Elkins and the granddaughter of the late Wilfred J. and DeSales Lothes. She is the mother of Ashley Nikole, who resides with her at Lothes' new duty location.
During her 22 years of military service, Lothes has served throughout the world. In addition to her recent Korean tour, she has had assignments to Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, Crete and Italy; as well as Langley Air Force Base in Virginia; Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio; Kelly Air Force Base in Texas; and Fort Meade in Maryland.
In August, Lothes returned from her Korean assignment and is now stationed in the area of Virginia Beach, Va., where currently works for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Lothes was born in Elkins, but grew up moving around the globe with her father, who was a career Air Force officer.
