DMH Women’s Health Day set for this Saturday

November 6, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Davis Memorial Hospital's annual Women's Health Day is set to take place on the DMH campus in Elkins from 7:30 until 11 a.m. Saturday.

The event promotes good health for women of all ages through a variety of free screenings, wellness information and discounted blood testing.

Highlights of Women's Health Day include a discounted multiphasic blood analysis. This is available at a reduced rate of $30 from 7 to 10 a.m., and it should be scheduled prior by calling 304-637-3861. This special analysis includes individual CBC, liver function and other chemistry, cholesterol levels, iron and a thyroid level.

"Sometimes women are so busy managing the health of their families that they don't take time for their own health," said Marjory Moses, DMH director of community wellness and event coordinator. "This event makes it convenient for them to have a number of valuable screenings and tests performed at one time."

Free pap tests and clinical breast exams will be given at the Women's HealthCare building - by appointment only - by calling 304-637-3185.

Additional blood tests will be offered at discounted prices including: Hemoglobin A1C, $25; C-Reactive protein, $10; blood typing with RH factor, $15; Vitamin B12 and Folate, $20; and Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy, $40. Overnight fasting is required. Test results will be sent to the individual's home.

Many community health and service agencies will participate in Women's Health Day to provide information about skin care, stress reduction, weight management and more. Other free health evaluations available will include blood pressure checks, finger cholesterol level checks, colon cancer screening kits and more. Free flu shots will be given to women from 9 to 11 a.m.

Participants will receive a free gift sponsored by the DMH Auxiliary, and a voucher for a free hearing screening from Tygart Valley ENT. Refreshments will be served.

Participants can enter the hospital using the Gorman Avenue entrance. More information is available at 304-637-3139.
