ON TRAC plans ‘Taste of Christmas’

November 7, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

The Elkins ON TRAC Organization Committee and downtown businesses have organized a special event to kick off the holiday season and welcome the Polar Express back to town.

Set for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Seneca Mall Atrium, "Taste of Christmas" also will celebrate the newly decorated downtown area. The public is invited to the event, which will feature a sampling of seasonal treats, wine tasting and entertainment by local school music groups.

"Taste of Christmas is a chance for everyone to visit with friends and enjoy homemade holiday specialties donated by participating businesses and ON TRAC volunteers," said Committee Chair Alice Sabatino. "It's also a wonderful opportunity for businesses to show the community what downtown has to offer."

A number of businesses have donated gift certificates and popular gift items for raffles and door prizes, and drawings will be held throughout the event. Those who purchase advance tickets will be eligible for door prizes, but must be present to win. Raffle tickets will be available during the event. Raffle ticket holders need not be present to win.

Advance tickets are available at many downtown locations, including American Mountain Theater, Counter Culture Concepts, Davis Trust Co., Elkins Sewing Center, Fashion Closet, Henry G's, Hopscotch, Joey's Bike Shop, Papa John's Pizza, Sewing for the Season, The Closet, Tricket Hardware and Elkins/Randolph County YMCA.

Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $2 for children and $15 for families when purchased in advance at participating businesses. Advance tickets may also be purchased from ON TRAC board members and committee members. Ticket price includes all refreshments and wine-tasting for those of legal age. Nonalcoholic beverages will also be provided.

In addition to indoor activities, Taste of Christmas guests can take a stroll through town and be among the first to admire new holiday lights and decorations. Volunteers will place decorations in the downtown area this week.

Downtown businesses also are invited to decorate in time for Friday's event. Those who have holiday decorations in place may participate in a decorating contest sponsored by The Inter-Mountain. First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded, as well as a "people's choice" award.

More than 20 businesses are participating in Taste of Christmas. If your business has not been contacted and you would like to participate by donating homemade holiday treats or prizes, selling tickets or donating your time to help with the event or participating in the downtown decorating contest, please email info@elkinsontrac.org.

All proceeds of the Taste of Christmas event will benefit Elkins ON TRAC.
