A range of holiday-themed activities will kick off this weekend in downtown Elkins.
The first of the 41 Polar Express holiday train departures for 2012 is set to take place at 5 p.m. Friday, along with the Lighting of the Town and the opening of Santa's Workshop festivities.
Friday is the beginning of a six-week calendar of activities planned to entertain residents and visitors to Elkins and the downtown area.
Activities begin at 9 a.m. Friday and will be offered through 8 p.m. Sunday.
A walking tour brochure with a weekend calendar will be available at area hotels, restaurants and Welcome Centers, with activities listed for each Polar Express weekend.
Every Sunday from Nov. 11 to Dec. 9 will feature a bonfire and marshmallow roast at the Town Square from 4 to 8 p.m., with scheduled community holiday sing-a-longs from 4 to 7 p.m.
