Philip Barbour will be making its 11th straight Class AA state tournament appearance when it battles Herbert Hoover at 2:30 p.m. today at the Charleston Civic Center.
"The girls are very excited about making the trip to Charleston," Philip Barbour coach Heather Halfin said. "I think the girls have a lot of confidence going into the tourney."
The Lady Colts (36-13-1) advanced to the state tourney after finishing runner-up in the Region II tournament.
Philip Barbour lost to Frankfort in the regional championship. The Lady Colts dropped that match in four games.
Philip Barbour is led by senior Brooke Depoy, who has 265 kills, 102 blocks and 309 points on the season.
Depoy went over the 1,000-point mark for her career this year and is only the second Philip Barbour player to ever accomplish such a feat.
Junior Nikki Shriver has 361 kills, 114 blocks and 340 digs, while Mariah Davis has 325 points and 49 blocks this season.
Morgan Stemler finished the campaign with 522 assists for Philip Barbour.
"We were able to practice a couple times during last week's storm," Halfin said. "Hopefully we're ready to go down and compete in Charleston."
Philip Barbour fell to Oak Glen in the opening round of the state tournament last season.
The winner will face either Pikeview or Ritchie County later tonight.
The Class AA state championship game will be Saturday at 10 a.m.
