Minnie Suzanne Roth Kerns, 92, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Saturday evening, Nov. 10, 2012, in Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown.
She was born Tuesday, May 11, 1920, at Johnstown, Pa. a daughter of the late Mr. Roth and Rose Myeski Roth.
On Sept. 27, 1946, at Elkins, she was married to Grover Glendon Kerns Sr., who preceded her in death Feb. 13, 1977.
Surviving are one son, Grover Glendon Kerns Jr. and wife, Katie, Elkins; two grandsons, Rob Kerns and wife, Lisa, of Elkins and Zach Kerns and wife, Tina, of Morgantown; and four great-great-grandchildren, Danielle, Dylan, Garrett and Thea.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Carl and Merle Roth.
Minnie was a graduate of Johnstown High School at Johnstown, Pa., and nursing school at Johnstown, Pa., and served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. After her service, she continued her nursing career at Davis Memorial Hospital, where she worked for more than 30 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Circle 5 of the church.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley and the Rev. Barry R. Moll will officiate, and interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and West Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard will conduct full military rites.
