Helen Kelley Phillips, 90, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, in Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center.
She was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Roscoe Kelley and the late Effie Booth Moore Kelley.
On June 14, 1947, she was married to Norman "Bus" Phillips, who preceded her in death Oct. 14, 1997.
They had been married for 50 years and four months.
Surviving are nieces, Karen Kelley Reichhold and husband, Gary, of Zelienople, Pa., Audrey Phillips Sheidy and husband, Dick, of Baltimore, Md., and Margaret "Peggy" Smith and husband, Larry, of Severn, Md. A nephew, Paul D. Kelley and wife, Julia, of Midlothian, Va.; several cousins and friends, including a very special friend and cousin, Maxine Cooper of Elkins also survive.
Mrs. Phillips was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by a brother, Charles W. Kelley; a sister, Lillian Kelley; and a half sister, Clarise Moore Cross.
Mrs. Phillips attended the schools of Barbour County and was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1939.
She was employed by the state of West Virginia, Division of Employment Security for more than 27 years retiring in 1970. She was a member of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, a member of Circle No. 6 of the church, a member of Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Emma Scott Garden Club and a member of the Regional Convalescent Hospital Auxiliary.
She loved to do craftwork and made beautiful Christmas stockings which were given to people throughout the United States.
Mrs. Phillips remains were cremated and will be interred at a later date in Elkins Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
