Mr. Dennis Darrel McCoy Sr., 80, a resident of Route 1, Belington, went home to be with the Lord at 1:17 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 at his home. He had been in been in declining health for the past several months.
He was born Jan. 15, 1932, in Webster County, a son of the late Cecil and Amanda Hammons McCoy.
On Sept. 10, 1955, at Baltimore, Md., he was united in marriage to the former Alice Pauline Baughman, who preceded him in death Oct. 18, 2010.
He is survived by one son, the Rev. Dennis McCoy Jr. and wife, Dorcas, of the Cayman Islands; one daughter, Cindy J. Moore and husband, Lee, of Belington; and one sister, Melba Rinehart and husband, Loren Jr., of Belington. Also surviving are four grandchildren Brett Andrew McCoy, U.S. Air Force and wife, Karissa, Brandon Darrell McCoy of Barberton, Ohio, Richard Joseph Beyer Jr. and wife, Jamie, both of the U.S. Air Force and Leslie Dawn Alohaloni Beyer of Belington, three great-grandchildren, Caden Andrew and Jordan David McCoy, and Allison Faith Beyer; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Gary and Leslie "Lec" McCoy.
Mr. McCoy attended the schools of Barbour County and honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Mr. McCoy was employed with the CSX Railroad from which he retired in 1989. At that time, he and his wife moved back to West Virginia. He attended Weaver Church of the Nazarene and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He will be sadly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18. On Monday, Mr. McCoy will be moved to Weaver Church of the Nazarene where friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted with the Rev. Dennis D. McCoy Jr. and Pastor Johnny Paul Williams II officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 96 of Belington and Post 44 of Philippi near Belington.
