This three-rail Polar Express model train and layout is a favorite of young and old, making its way around the O gauge track at the Elkins Depot. The layout is currently on display at the Elkins Depot Welcome Center, and is the grand prize in the West Virginia Railroad Museum’s raffle. The winner will be announced Dec. 15.

The proceeds from the fundraiser will be used for matching grant funding for restoration of a steam locomotive. This Baldwin Consolidation type number 9 was manufactured in 1904 for the West Virginia Northern Railroad based in Kingwood. It later served on the Preston Railroad before its 1960s retirement. The museum intends to restore the locomotive for use between Elkins and Beverly in the next few years.

More information about the museum and fundraiser are available by calling 304-636-2903 or online at wvrailmuseum.com.
