Cold shooting plagues Elkins in 43-31 setback

Peyton Ryan fired in a game-high 14 points to lead East Fairmont 43-31 Friday in Big 10 Conference action at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

Felicity VanGilder added 10 points, while Lauren Davis added eight points for the Lady Bees, who led 18-13 at halftime and 26-21 after three quarters of play.

Broklynn Weaver chipped in with seven points for East Fairmont.

Ashley Simmons finished with a double-double with 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lady Tigers (1-1).

Logan Dudley added four points and collected three steals, while Brianna Swecker added three points for Elkins.

Lindsay Silvester added six rebounds, while Colleen Webley chipped in with three steals for the Lady Tigers.

"We didn't shoot the ball well," Elkins coach Nancy Lewis said. "If we would have made our free throws, we could have had a chance to win the game.

"I thought defensively we really played well."

Elkins won the junior varsity, 51-33, over East Fairmont.

Haley Lloyd had eight points, while Meghan Dolly and Caroline Valdez had seven points each for Elkins.

Elkins will travel to Bridgeport Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. Big 10 Conference matchup.
