Valley Head United Methodist Church and Mingo Charge recently honored Alma Shaffer, who resigned her position in September after serving Mingo United Methodist Charge as secretary/treasurer for more than 55 years.
In addition, she dedicated her life to serving God in many capacities in the Valley Head United Methodist Church, including secretary/treasurer, Sunday school teacher and leader of children/youth groups.
She also served as pianist into her 90s. Shaffer is now 98.

Her daughter recently smiled and stated, "Mother has done everything in the church except preach - she did enough of that at home."
Shaffer was honored with a certificate of appreciation and gift by Pastor Ann Fretwell and members of the Valley Head United Methodist Church.
Shaffer remains a faithful member of the church.
