EDINBORO, Pa. - A second-half surge keyed by senior Kiara Brown allowed Edinboro to break a tie with 10 minutes remaining and pull away late for a 79-60 victory over Davis & Elkins Tuesday night at McComb Fieldhouse.
With the game tied 47-47 halfway through the second half, Brown launched the Fighting Scots (4-2) on a 23-3 burst over a four-minute span. Brown scored 14 of Edinboro's points during the surge. By the time the dust had settled, Edinboro boasted a 20-point advantage and held control of the contest. Brown's 3 with 5:37 left to play gave Edinboro a 70-50 lead and the Fighting Scots would not look back.
Brown finished with a season-high 26 points, five assists and four steals. and also added four rebounds. Samantha Blazetic chipped in with 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three blocks and a pair of steals. Darche' Jackson scored all 12 of her points during the second half, and also finished with five boards and three assists.
Edinboro held a 31-23 lead at halftime and never trailed, but the Lady Senators (1-4) proved to be a pesky foe as two free throws from Page Turner tied the game at 47.
D&E had two players in double figures as Turner led the visitors with 14 points and seven assists, and Maquasia Ferebee added 10 points.
The Lady Senators will return to action at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shepherd for a West Virginia Conference contest.
The Fighting Scots will visit California (Pa.) on the same afternoon.
