Four Upshur County residents have been charged with animal cruelty after failing to follow an officer's orders.

Shelley Tenney, 40; Scott Tenney, 40; Denver Claypool, 43; and Jessica Raulston, 18; all of Tallmansville, were arrested this week on cruelty to animal charges by the Upshur County Sheriff's Department, according to a complaint in Upshur County Magistrate Court.

The complaint stated that Upshur County Animal Control Officer Patti Gum arrived at the Tenney residence and Claypool's residence on Nov. 21 and found an unspecified number of dogs to be malnourished, without adequate shelter and in need of medical treatment.

According to the complaint, Gum gave them two weeks to remedy the situation. But when they allegedly failed to do so, they were arrested on the misdemeanor charges.

They were arraigned in Upshur County Magistrate Court, where bond was set at $2,000 each.
