A Buckhannon woman remains lodged in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail after allegedly attacking a deputy sheriff as she was being escorted out of a local establishment.
Beverly Dawn Beckner, 36, of 136 East Main St., is charged with one felony, battery on a police officer, second offense; and four misdemeanor charges, battery, obstructing an officer, trespassing and assault on a police officer. She is being held in the regional jail on a $45,000 bond.
According to the complaint in Upshur County Magistrate Court, officers from both the Upshur County Sheriff's Department and the Buckhannon Police Department responded to the Bicentennial Inn in Buckhannon on Wednesday after receiving a complaint of an unregistered guest roaming the premises.
The officers located Beckner in the vending machine room on the second floor and asked her to leave.
The complaint stated that as the group was walking down the stairs, Beckner became loud and irate and began poking the night clerk in the stomach in a provoking manner.
The officers then physically escorted Beckner out of the building and placed her in handcuffs. The complaint stated Beckner resisted arrest, and that while being arrested, she kicked Cpl. Rocky Hebb of the sheriff's department in the leg and reportedly tried to kick him again.
