Mary Belle Liggett, 84, a resident of Huttonsville, passed from this life Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, in Holbrook on the Hill in Buckhannon.
She was born Monday, Aug. 13, 1928, at Huttonsville, a daughter of the late Austin Earl Liggett and Elva Vada Barrett Liggett.
She was never married.
Mary is survived by a sister, Emily L. Liggett of Hawaii; a brother-in-law, Loy McAtee of Huttonsville; two sisters-in-law, Nellie Liggett of Huttonsville and Helena Liggett of Elkins; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece who was her caretaker, Mary Marcum of Huttonsville.
Preceding Mary in death were two brothers, James R. Liggett and Barrett L. Liggett; and two sisters, Katheryn A. McAtee and Patti J. Laderach.
Mary was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School and was a school teacher at Rupert, Hillsboro, Marlinton and Tygarts Valley Junior High, retiring in 1987. Most of her years as an educator were spent teaching eighth grade math. She was a member of Retired Teachers Association of Randolph County, Randolph County Senior Center and the Eastern Star, and volunteered with Tyrand Cooperative Ministries. She enjoyed sewing and tatting. She also was a member of Tygarts Valley Presbyterian Church.
Mary's request to donate her body to the Human Gift Registry at West Virginia University was honored. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. at Tygart Valley Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Joanne Glaser will officiate.
The family has requested that memorial contributions in Mary's honor be given to the Tygarts Valley Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 118, Huttonsville, WV 26273 or to Tyrand Cooperative Ministries, P.O.
