Harold VanReenen

Harold Chappell "Hum" VanReenen, 69, a resident of Alpena, departed this life early Thursday morning, Dec. 13, 2012, in Davis Memorial Hospital emergency department. He had been in declining health although death was unexpected.

He was born Sunday, March 28, 1943, at Hillsboro, a son of the late Arnold Lee VanReenen and Thresea Marie Chappell VanReenen Doyle.

On April 26, 1997, at Elkins, he was married to the former Amelia Louise "Amy" Cunningham, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Harold Brien VanReenen of Ft. Riley, Kan., and Matthew Channing VanReenen of Marlinton; three daughters, Pamela Sue VanReenen and Ben of Havre De Grace, Md., Tonia Lynn Brookman and Tom of Jellico, Tenn., and Regina G. Cutlip and Terry of Marlinton; one brother, James Stanley VanReenen of Buckeye; one sister, Mary Kathleen Biller and Randall of Elkins; four grandchildren, Christina, Shannon and Hali Brookman, all of Jellico, Tenn., and Jennifer Buzzard and Justin of Dunmore; one great-granddaughter, Clair Marie Buzzard of Dunmore; and his cats, Billy, Magnum and Marilyn Monroe.

Preceding him in death was one brother, William Lee VanReenen.

He was a graduate of Marlinton High School with the class of 1963 and was a truck driver for Burns Motor Freight for 36 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Randolph County Senior Center and National Truck Drivers Association, where he enjoyed the truck rodeos being the State Champion in 1985 and 1989 and received numerous other awards. He won the Million Mile MACK award and was driver of the month at Burns Motor Freight on many occasions. He attended Marlinton Church of the Nazarene.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Sunday, Dec. 16, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Terry A. Burgess will officiate, and interment will follow in Alpena Cemetery at Alpena.
